Google deadline April 21 – warning for non-responsive websites

The “responsive” Google deadline date is fast approaching!  Will your web site pass the test?

First we need to understand what this “responsive” feature even means. It simply means this, a responsive website is a website that looks and performs well on any type of device, and on any size monitor or screen. With so many people nowadays using their smartphones or tablets to browse the Internet, Google has decided that unless your website is mobile friendly, you will lose your ranking in Google Search.

Most newer websites from the last year or two most often are already built in a certain way where the pages conform nicely to any screen size. Especially if these websites were built using up to date WordPress themes.

Unfortunately, a large amount of websites, probably the majority of the websites out there, are not built with the smartphone or tablet screen size in mind. With other words, they won’t comply with Google’s new algorithms and requirements.

What to do? What if you can’t make the deadline of April 21? You’re probably not alone. It takes work and time to convert websites into responsive websites and most web designers who are using the most up to date technologies and have the experience to turn any website into a mobile friendly one, are overbooked and have their hands full trying to meet the enormous demands that were created by Google’s announcement.

Google also announced that many thought to be mobile friendly websites failed when checked with it’s mobile tool. Google urges all website owners to comply before the deadline.

Zineb Bahajji, from Google’s Webmaster Trends team was quoted as saying that the new mobile-friendly algorithm change will have more of an impact on search rankings than either Panda or Penguin, two of its most impactful search algorithm updates Google has ever rolled out.

Google has provide an official tool to determine if your site is compliant and formatted to be viewed on mobile devices.
